There are thousands of Greek islands, although only just over two hundred of them are inhabited. Even the main islands can take a long time to take in, especially if you want to see them properly and do some thorough exploration.
You might choose to stick to one island only and see as much as possible. However, if you would rather try to take in a few more places, there are some different ways you might choose to explore.
They all have their pros and cons, so it’s a good idea to spend some time thinking about what might be right for you.

Take a Cruise
Cruising around the islands of Greece is a very popular way to see them. You can find some fantastic Greek island cruises that allow you to see the islands the way that you want to.
A cruise allows you to stop at a number of places, and you get to enjoy some beautiful views and relaxation in between each stop. Some cruises will take you far and wide, while others will focus on some tight-knit island groups to allow you to see a little more of each island.
If you want more time to really get to know an island in-depth, you might prefer to explore in a different way.
Sail the Islands
Sailing can give you the benefits of a cruise, allowing you to island hop fairly quickly, but you can go at your own pace. If you don’t want to be on someone else’s schedule, you could choose a sailing trip.
If you’ve sailed before, you can simply hire a boat and decide where you want to go. If you don’t have any sailing experience, you could hire a boat with a skipper or join a trip with other travellers. However, this might mean sticking to an itinerary.
Paddle the Islands
Perhaps you would like a slower way to get around. If you’re up for some physical activity, you might want to consider exploring some islands by sea kayak.
Of course, you can’t go as fast or as far in a kayak, but that’s why it’s it’s a good choice for people who want to travel a bit more slowly. You could go between islands or choose to circumnavigate one island.
However, you’ll need to be physically fit and it’s a good idea to have a little experience.
Explore By Public Transport
Greece has a number of public transport options that make getting around easy. Ferries allow you to get between islands and to the mainland, while several islands have public buses that help you to get around.
For longer journeys, you might want to fly between islands to save time. You don’t need to have a car to get around, although you might find it handy on some of the larger islands.
You can choose how you want to explore the Greek islands, whether you want to take in as much as possible in a small amount of time or you want to go slowly.
