Day Trips to Portofino
Portofino is a famous place to visit on the Ligurian coast. It is a very small glamorous town for the rich and famous.
It has a small harbour that is surrounded by colourful buildings, with bars, restaurants and shops.
There are churches and a castle that you can visit or if you are into hiking there are routes that you can take to the next towns.
Portofino is a great place to sit and have a glass of wine or a spot of lunch, but be prepared to pay for it! There is a reason why it is a hot spot for the rich.
Portofino is an approx. 1 hour away from Genoa. To reach the town you can either take a boat, train and bus or drive.
In the summer months, the road into Portofino gets very busy as there is one road in and out of the town.
Day Trips to Santa Margherita
Santa Margherita is the town before Portofino and is a lot larger. It is on the Ligurian coast with a harbour and beaches.
The town is full of restaurants, bars, ice cream shops, cafes and shops.
If you like shopping there are a lot more shops in this town than in Portofino.
In Santa Margherita, you can walk around more and visit churches, big hotels, sit on the beach, have lunch.
Santa Margherita is still on the pricey side, but not as much as Portofino.
It takes approx. 45 minutes to get to Santa Margherita and you can get there by boat, train or driving.
Day Trips to Camogli
Camogli is approx. 45 minutes from Genoa and you can take a boat, train or drive there.
This small town is a lot quieter compared to Portofino and Santa Margherita as only the locals know about it. All the tourists head to well-known places, such as Portofino.
The town has a harbour and a beach and is surrounded by colourful buildings.
This is the place to have lunch as the prices are the same as Genoa and do not have the price tag of Portofino. There are lots of little restaurants, bars and shops.
Day Trips to Milan
Milan is approx. 2 hours away from Genoa and the easiest way to get there is by train or driving. It is a big city with lots to see.
The city is a lot more touristy, so expect to pay more in touristy areas, like by the cathedral and shopping district.

Cinque Terre is made up of five villages, so if you are on a private tour you can see a little of each quickly in a day.
But each town is nice to see individually if you have the time, as each village is unique in its own way.
