Basic Travel Skincare Routine

Basic Travel Skincare Routine - Lucy Williams Global

When traveling, it is best to keep up with your regular skincare routine, and with a basic travel skincare routine you will continue doing it while away.

Your skin may suffer if you change products or skip what you usually do. That may be a breakout, dryness, or dull skin.

Every time I cut corners with my skincare while on a weekend away, a week in a hotel, or on a cruise, my skin pays for it!

That is why it is best to have a simple skincare routine that you can maintain while traveling.

If you are doing a 10 step skincare routine it may not be easy to keep it up when you are away. But if you keep to the basics it is much easier.

I have my routine perfected after years of having bad skin. I have got my routine right and it does not contain many steps.

The key is consistency.

Travel Skincare Routine

Traveling can be an exciting adventure, but it often comes with challenges for your skin.

Long flights, changing climates, water quality, and unfamiliar environments can wreak havoc on even the most resilient complexions.

That’s why having a basic travel skincare routine is essential to keep your skin radiant and healthy while on the go.

Why Travel Skincare is Crucial

When you’re traveling, your skin is exposed to various stressors.

Airplane cabins are notoriously dry, causing dehydration.

Changing climates from humid beaches to windy mountain tops can leave your skin confused and reactive.

Keeping up with your regular skincare routine will keep your skin on track.

Morning Skincare Routine

Your morning skincare routine can be the same as your evening skincare routine, but you may want to swap out different serums.

Here is what my basic skincare routine looks like for the morning in this order.

I leave a few minutes in between the serum and the moisturizer.

  • Cleanser
  • Eye cream
  • Serum – Vitamin C
  • Moisturizer
  • SPF

Tried and Tested Morning Skincare Routine

My tried and tested products that work for my 40+ oily skin for my morning skincare routine are the following:

First, the cleanser that I use is the CeraVe Renewing Salicylic Acid Cleanser. This cleanser keeps my skin clear all year round at home and away on vacation.

Then, the Eye cream I use is Nivea Q10 Power Eye Cream, I have used this forever and it does not irritate my eyes and dries quickly.

My morning serum is the L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensives Derm Grade 12% Vitamin C + E + Salicylic Serum. This serum dries quickly and is not tacky on the skin.

The moisturizer I use is the La Roche Posay Toleriane Sensitive Skin Moisturizer, again this dries quickly therefore, it is perfect under makeup.

SPF – Eucerin SPF 50 Face Sunscreen Lotion , I have found this SPF dries quickly and does not cause breakouts.

  • Eye makeup remover
  • Eye cream
  • Serum – Retinol or Hyaluronic Acid
  • Moisturizer

Tried and Tested Evening Skincare Routine

My tried and tested products that work for my 40+ oily skin for my evening skincare routine are the following:

The cleanser I use for the first cleanse to remove my makeup is the Bioderma Sensibio Foaming Gel.

Then for the second cleanse to clean my face I use the same as my morning cleanser the CeraVe Renewing Salicylic Acid Cleanser.

The eye make up remover I use is the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water again I have used this forever.

You can use the first cleanser to take off eye makeup, but I prefer using this as it gets it all off with a cotton pad.

Skincare Routine Evening 1

The eye cream I use is Nivea Q10 Power Eye Cream, the same as the morning.

For my evening serums, I rotate one night with the L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Triple Power LZR Retinol Night Serum and then the next night with the Cerave Hyaluronic Acid Serum.

Followed by the moisturizer – La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, this moisturizer is a heavier cream but it really moisturizes the skin.

Skincare Products

I gradually added products into my routine and then gave it time to see if they agreed with my skin.

Each product I gave a few months to try them out.

These are the products I now stick with as they work for my skin type, which is oily, but slightly sensitive.

Packing Tips for Travel Skincare

Packing smart is half the battle when it comes to maintaining your skincare routine while traveling.

Here are some practical packing tips for travel:

  • Opt for Travel-Sized Products: Look for travel-friendly sizes of your favorite skincare essentials. Many brands offer mini versions of their products, perfect for carry-on luggage.
  • Stick to the Basics: Focus on the core elements of your skincare routine. Cleanser, serum and moisturizer. These skincare essentials will cover your basic needs.
  • Use your products that suit your skin: Use what suits your skin type as what I use may not suit your skin.
