Sweet Home Alpaca – Alpaca Walking in Pembrokeshire Wales
The farm we visited is called ‘Sweet Home Alpaca’ and is run by a fantastic woman named Angela.
Sweet Home Alpaca is located in Roch, near Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is very close to Roch Castle.
It is a farm so do expect narrow country roads.
Angela works hard to make the experience very personal and fun which makes a great day out.
This is something different to do on your vacation if you are in the Pembrokeshire area or a fantastic day trip if you live nearby for all the family.

Why You Should Visit an Alpaca Farm
I have always been intrigued by alpacas, with their interest in what is going on around them and their funny expressions, almost human-like.
Also, they are so cute!
Visiting an alpaca farm is an experience great for any age. I enjoyed it, but I think my 72-year-old mother enjoyed it more! (Before you ask, I checked with her first before I wrote her age).
At Sweet Home Alpaca you get a lot of time with the alpacas.
Our experience was for 2 hours, which included a walk with an alpaca, feeding them, and meeting all of the alpacas as there were 40 plus there when we went there.
Also, they have 120 rescued battery chickens, which are the funniest things as they all follow you around the farm, like the animation film Chicken Run.
At Sweet Home Alpaca there are different experience options at the farm – alpaca walks or a meet and greet. Let’s have a look at the differences.

What is an alpaca walk?
An alpaca walk is a walk with an alpaca!
It is like walking your dog around a farm, just bigger as the alpaca is on a lead like a dog.
Depending on the package you choose, you can walk an alpaca or two of you can walk with one alpaca.
Children under 14 need to be with an adult when walking an alpaca.
The alpacas like to be in a herd so when you go for a walk your group will all walk together.
The day we went there were seven of us and we all walked with our alpacas around the farm.
The farm scenery is beautiful, apart from photos of the alpacas you will get some good pics.
The walk is around 45 minutes, but the whole experience is 2 hours.
After the walk, you get to feed all the alpacas, so you go all around the farm and feed the males and females and some babies.
At one point I had the food basket, and all the alpacas chased me to the feeding bowls!

What is a Meet and Greet with an Alpaca?
If you don’t fancy a walk with an alpaca, you can do a meet & greet with the alpacas.
This is approximately a 1-hour experience.
You will get to feed the animals their treats and get up close to them.

What to Wear on an Alpaca Walk
Depending on the weather and season you go in as they are open all year round, dress accordingly to the weather.
But you need to wear sensible footwear, closed shoes, no sandals, or flip-flops.
Wellies in the winter and walking boots or trainers in the summer.
Clothing should be appropriate for the weather conditions but avoid anything that might flap.
They strongly recommend wearing long trousers.
I went in the spring and wore jeans, a light jacket, and trainers.

How to Get There
The farm is 20 minutes from Haverfordwest or Fishguard.
It is in the middle of nowhere, so best to go by car as there is no public transport to the farm.
The closest bus stop is 2 miles away. Pick-ups from the bus stop can be included, you just need to phone Angela on 07367219738.
The address for your map app or sat nav is Sweet Home Alpaca, Cuffern, Haverfordwest, SA62 6HB. Do not follow the postcode, just type Sweet Home Alpaca in Google or Apple Maps and it will take you to their door.
