Q & A WITH A CRUISE SHIP PASSENGER – PART 5

Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger - Part 5 - Lucy Williams Global

Welcome to the new Sunday feature a ‘Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger’. Earlier this year we had ‘The Officer Wife Series Travel & Cruise Tips Q & A’ and I had such great feedback I thought let’s get another cruise perspective and who better to ask than the actual passengers!

Being an officer wife on a cruise ship, I meet some lovely people from all over the world and I found some great volunteers to give you all their cruise tips.

This week we will feature Ms Vicki and she is from Perrysburg, Ohio in the USA. Her first cruise was in 1983 and she been on a cruise every 4-5 years until 2011. Then when her kids were grown, she started cruising more and has been on almost 40 cruises in total.

Let’s see what great cruise tips Ms Vicki has for you.

Q & A WITH A CRUISE SHIP PASSENGER – PART 5 - Lucy Williams Global

Our ship docked at Grand Turk with my husband

What is your favourite port in the world?

South Pacific/Hawaii

What is your favourite cruise?

That is a tie between the British Isles Cruise (2014) and the Hawaii/Tahiti Cruise (2017)

Why do you like cruising?

The greatest escape I can think of! Sea days are the best. When the ship docks in a port, I only get off the ship about 50% of the time.

I also enjoy being able to see so many places without having to pack, unpack, get transport to hotel, unpack, find a restaurant for dinner, find an activity to do near hotel, after a day or 2 repack, get transport to airport, wait for flight, fly to next destination, and start the whole process over again.

Cruising is about doing what you want to do. You can do all the ship’s activities, or none of them (just curl up with a good novel) and relax.

What cruise tips would you give to a first-time cruiser?

Get on as many Facebook cruising groups as you can because there is so much information to be gained from these sites!

Q & A WITH A CRUISE SHIP PASSENGER – PART 5 - Lucy Williams Global

My husband, my Mom and me on the Tahiti cruise last October

Do you have any packing tips?

Pack your suitcase. Now take out 1/2  of your clothes. Pack your wallet. Now put twice as much cash in it.

What type of cabin do you prefer onboard?

Rear balcony is great for views and quietness.

Do you like formal nights?

YES!!! I am an old fudd and I enjoy dressing up. Being with your husband for a night dining and dancing, all dressed up, makes you both horny and ready for great sex!  (THIS BLOG IS FOR ADULTS ONLY, RIGHT?! LOL!)

Q & A WITH A CRUISE SHIP PASSENGER – PART 5 - Lucy Williams Global

My husband and me with some people we met from Canada on a Panama Canal cruise in 2014.

Do you book your cruises far in advance or last minute?

I have booked anywhere from 6 months to 6 weeks ahead.

Is there a lot of planning involved for you when you book a cruise?

Not for quick get-a-ways. If the cruise is longer than 7 days, it requires more planning. No different than any other vacation. A cruise of any length requires substantially less planning than any other type of vacation as so much of it is planned for you. (Entertainment, dining options, etc)

What is the longest cruise you have been on and would you do it again?

28 days! I would do it 12 times a year if money were no object!

Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger Part 4 - Lucy Williams Global

Welcome to the new Sunday feature a ‘Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger’. Earlier this year we had ‘The Officer Wife Series Travel & Cruise Tips Q & A’ and I had such great feedback I thought let’s get another cruise perspective and who better to ask than the actual passengers!

Being an officer wife on a cruise ship, I meet some lovely people from all over the world and I found some great volunteers to give you all their cruise tips.

This week we will feature the couple, Michael and Gale. They are from  Colorado and Arizona in the USA. They have been cruising for over 33 for years and have been on around 90 cruises! So they know their stuff when it comes to cruising. They just love cruising and they are happy when they are on a Cruise Ship!

Let’s see what cruise tips they have for you.

Part 1 Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger

We just love cruising – we are happy when we are on a Cruise Ship!!!

What is your favourite port in the world?

No special port. Most ports are great.

What is your favourite cruise?

World Cruise in 2017 on the Pacific Princess.

Why do you like cruising?

We love cruising because you don’t have to keep packing and unpacking. Get onboard the ship and put your stuff away and enjoy your time. You get great food. You have a great place to stay because someone else does our laundry and our room steward takes great care of us.

What cruise tips would you give to a first-time cruiser?

Take a short 3-day cruise first and make sure you like it. Then if you do like cruising – make them longer and longer. Make a list after you get in your cabin for your room steward of your needs. Extra items you would like – like extra kleenex, extra ice, extra hangars, etc. The room steward can’t read your mind and he’ll be glad you told him

Do you have any packing tips?

Make a very thorough list so you are not sorry you forgot something. In some countries, you may not be able to find things you really want.

What type of cabin do you prefer onboard?

We used to always just stay in balcony rooms but now we like the extra space that is in a Mini-Suite.

Do you like formal nights?

We cruise about 100 to 150 days a year and are tired of getting all dressed up. We do the formal nights if they have them but really prefer not to have them anymore. We do always dress nice enough at night to eat in the dining room.

Do you book your cruises far in advance or last minute?

We book our cruises far in advance – about 1 to 1 and a half years ahead. We do this so we are able to get the floor and room that we want.

Is there a lot of planning involved for you when you book a cruise?

We pick the basic itinerary, places, length of cruise, etc. and then find the cruise and cruise ship that we like. The planning doesn’t take too long.

What is the longest cruise you have been on and would you do it again?

Our longest cruise has been the World Cruise in 2017 (111 days) on the Pacific Princess. And yes we would certainly do it again because we recently booked another World Cruise for 2020. It will be 118 days on the Viking Sun.

Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger – Part 3

Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger Part 3 - Lucy Williams Global

Welcome to the new Sunday feature a ‘Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger’. Earlier this year we had ‘The Officer Wife Series Travel & Cruise Tips Q & A’ and I had such great feedback I thought let’s get another cruise perspective and who better to ask than the actual passengers!

Being an officer wife on a cruise ship, I meet some lovely people from all over the world and I found some great volunteers to give you all their cruise tips.

This week we will feature Mariana. She is from Berlin, Germany and now lives in Phoenix, AZ  in the USA. She has been cruising for 35 years and has been on around 61 cruises!

The very first cruise she went on was to Alaska, with Princess Cruises and says ‘nothing feels as good as being on the ocean’.  She has been to the Mediterranean, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Caribbean, Iceland, Greenland, Canada/New England, the Far East, Panama Canal and would love to visit Australia.

Let’s see what cruise tips she has for you.

Part 2 Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger

What is your favourite port in the world?

Very hard to say, but St. Petersburg was awesome. So much history, beautiful Hermitage Museum and much more.

What is your favourite cruise?

Oh Boy! Too many to mention. We loved the Baltics (Northern Europe), South America with so much beauty, best glaciers in Chilean Fjords, of course, Osaka & Kyoto (Japan).

Part 2 Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger

Why do you like cruising?

Most relaxing way to travel. All inclusive, only unpack once. A wonderful way to meet exciting people and make new friends.

What cruise tips would you give to a first-time cruiser?

Read up on your new destinations, check the cruise website and look at the layout of your ship, choose to cruise for Value, Activities, Simplicity, Pampering & Romance.

Part 2 Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger

Do you have any packing tips?

DO NOT OVERPACK. I can not begin to tell you how many times I have packed too much and come home with pieces of clothing that were never worn. 2 pair of shoes and a pair of good walking tennis shoes is all you need. Poolside will require a pair of Flip Flops. Lay out your wardrobe and match up 2 or 3 items that will give you the look you love.

What type of cabin do you prefer onboard?

Balcony, Aft of the ship, less noise and motion. Once you have a balcony, you’ll never go back to an ocean window. Your balcony can add “space” to your stateroom, it brings the outside in, you can watch all activities while in port, relax on your private balcony with a glass of wine.

Do you like formal nights?

YES! I love the opportunity to dress up. But I do keep it simple, elegant and comfortable. Black is always in style. Make it dressy with Pearls or rhinestone beads, add a sparkly top.

Part 2 Q & A with a Cruise Ship Passenger

Do you book your cruises far in advance or last minute?

Not last minute, but usually 8 months to a year out.

Is there a lot of planning involved for you when you book a cruise?

Not any more. In our younger years, we had to consider our business and of course the children.

What is the longest cruise you have been on and would you do it again?

17 days from Seattle to Osaka. Yes, I would love to take longer cruises.

Is there a lot of planning involved for you when you book a cruise?

We do not do a lot of planning when booking a cruise since we let the expert our travel agent do the work! She will take care of all the details for us! We just tell her when, where, and she gives us several options and then off we go.

What is the longest cruise you have been on and would you do it again?

The longest cruise we’ve been on was a 28 day trip to Hawaii and Tahiti. Yes, we would go again when we have time to see all of those islands and see their beauty once again!
